The upcoming 10am launch marks a departure from the retailer's traditional large-scale footprints. While the site is smaller, it offers a curated selection of approximately 600 home accessories available for immediate purchase, including staples like the BILLY bookcase and KALLAX shelving units. Beyond carry-home items, the store serves as a design hub where customers can consult experts by appointment or drop-in to plan complex home projects. Products ordered through these sessions are delivered directly to the customer’s home or a preferred collection point.
This opening follows the closure of Ikea's Wellington Square Order and Collection Point in March, signaling a broader commitment to the planning-led format. Kevin Coventry, Market Manager at Ikea, noted that the central Union Square location aims to simplify the design process for local residents. The Aberdeen site integrates into a wider network of Scottish operations, complementing existing stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as the recent Plan and Order Point in Dundee.
