USPS Unveils New Kwanzaa Stamp Featuring Father-Daughter Bond

The 2026 design, created by artist Cannaday Chapman under the direction of Antonio Alcalá, shifts away from the traditional black, red, and green palette. Chapman opted for a vibrant combination of lime green, pink, and yellow to offer a fresh perspective on the holiday. For the artist, the project held personal significance; he drew inspiration from his own experience as a new father and his childhood memories of celebrating the seven-day festival. The stamp is issued in panes of 20 as a Forever stamp, maintaining its utility for First-Class Mail regardless of future price changes.

Since its inception in 1966, Kwanzaa has served as a cultural touchstone for African Americans, emphasizing the Nguzo Saba—the seven principles of unity, self-determination, collective work, responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. While the holiday is rooted in historical struggle, the new stamp highlights the joy and communal optimism that families share during the festive season.
