Candace Cameron Bure on the Brutal Reality of Special Forces

“I was ready to quit,” admits Full House alum Candace Cameron Bure, reflecting on the grueling physical and mental demands of Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. Premiering September 24, the fifth season pushes fifteen celebrities through military-style trials that Bure describes as the most challenging endeavor of her life.

Bure, who joined the cast after previously turning down the offer due to fear, found herself pushed to a breaking point. She described the experience as a blend of excitement and brutality, noting that the combination of intense fitness challenges and the hormonal shifts of perimenopause made the process uniquely difficult. Beyond the physical toll, the actress admitted that the interrogation segments were genuinely frightening, frequently triggering a fight-or-flight response that left her struggling to maintain her composure.

Despite the tears and the urge to walk away, Bure views the experience as a vital personal test. She gained significant insight into her own limitations, particularly regarding her role as a teammate. The actress expressed disappointment in her tendency to lean toward a 'flight' reaction when under extreme pressure, a realization she now intends to work on in her daily life. The season, which features a diverse cast including Brandi Glanville and Ruby Rose, eliminates the traditional voting format, requiring contestants to either persevere through the military-style drills or withdraw when they can no longer continue.
