The collaboration centers on a new Offboard Safety Bridge, an interface designed to extend Agility’s existing safety protocols beyond the robot's onboard systems. This architecture integrates a safety pendant, on-robot communications, and external interfaces, creating a redundant safety net that allows for manual overrides during setup or unexpected operational scenarios. By embedding FORT’s technology, Agility intends to provide a more resilient framework for environments like warehouses and manufacturing plants, where the proximity of machines to people remains a primary operational challenge.
Pras Velagapudi, CTO at Agility Robotics, noted that this infrastructure is designed to function whether inputs originate from the robot itself or the surrounding environment. The partnership shifts the relationship between the two companies from simple component supply to a deeper engineering engagement, covering regulatory compliance and deployment support as the Digit 5 platform scales. This move follows a track record of over 65,000 operational hours logged by previous Digit models at sites including Schaeffler and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, setting a baseline for the safety standards required for the next generation of humanoid deployment.
