Measure BB would effectively revoke the city's authority to collect advertising revenue from public property billboards. This shift threatens to eliminate approximately $8 million in annual funding currently earmarked for public safety, park maintenance, senior services, and essential street repairs. While the city loses its income, the stadium-sponsored advertising infrastructure would remain operational.
Oliver Unaka, campaign manager for Inglewood Residents for Stadium Accountability, described the proposal as a "Billionaires' Bailout." He noted the contradiction of allowing giant stadium screens to continue generating revenue while city-managed funds are forced to dry up. The party’s endorsement bolsters a campaign already supported by Mayor James T. Butts, Housing Commissioner Keokia Childress, and various faith leaders. For these opponents, the vote represents a fundamental choice about whether Inglewood retains the financial capacity to support its own community infrastructure.
