Traditional oral ED medications often suffer from hepatic first-pass metabolism, which can degrade up to 95% of a dose and result in activation times ranging from 30 to 150 minutes. Roxus attempts to solve this through a metered nasal spray that reaches the bloodstream much more rapidly. According to data published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, this delivery method allows for comparable plasma concentrations at a 5mg intranasal dose versus a 10mg oral dose, potentially reducing the overall drug exposure for patients.
Morley Baker, CEO of Mavrox, noted that the product is intended to remove the need for patients to schedule intimacy an hour in advance, restoring spontaneity for those who struggle with standard oral therapies or dysphagia. The medication is currently available exclusively through the Mavrox telehealth platform following a clinical eligibility review. Subscription packages start at $199 for a one-month supply of 14 doses. While the product is marketed as a breakthrough in men's health, it remains a compounded prescription medication and has not yet received formal U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval.
