Function Appoints Former Spotify and Uber Marketing Executive Taj Alavi

Taj Alavi, a veteran marketer who scaled Instagram, Uber, and Spotify into household names, is joining health-tech startup Function as its first Chief Marketing Officer. Her arrival signals an aggressive push to transform personal health management into a daily consumer habit for millions of users worldwide.

Alavi brings an extensive background in shifting consumer behavior toward new technologies. Her track record includes managing Instagram’s global brand during its expansion to one billion users and overseeing a $13 billion audio business at Spotify. Most recently, she applied these strategies to the wellness sector through a consulting role at Neko Health. CEO Jonathan Swerdlin framed the appointment as a necessary step to rebrand healthcare from an inaccessible, reactive industry into a convenient, data-driven consumer utility.

This leadership change follows a period of rapid expansion for the Austin-based firm. Function recently secured $450 million in financing led by General Catalyst and completed the acquisitions of Getlabs and SuppCo. The company currently offers a subscription model providing access to over 160 lab tests, aiming to democratize preventative health by positioning biological monitoring as an essential, affordable daily service.
