Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show Marks 50 Years of Innovation

From November 6 to 8, 2026, the Pennsylvania Convention Center will host the 50th annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show. This milestone gathering brings together 195 juried artists, marking five decades of a volunteer-led initiative that has evolved into a premier national platform for handmade artistry.

The anniversary event kicks off with a preview party on November 5, followed by a weekend dedicated to direct engagement between makers and collectors. Attendees can expect a diverse display of disciplines, while a special program on Saturday, November 7, features talks by acclaimed artists Syd Carpenter, Roberto Lugo, and Adebunmi Gbadebo. These speakers will reflect on their creative trajectories and the shifting landscape of contemporary craft.

Since its founding in 1977 by the museum’s Women’s Committee, the show has functioned as more than a retail venue. It serves as a vital revenue stream for the institution, having raised over $15 million to date. These funds have historically supported the museum’s educational outreach and the Conservation Department, facilitating the acquisition of specialized tools including advanced imaging equipment and portable microscopy. Craft Show Manager Nancy O’Meara noted that the event remains a celebration of the essential nature of handmade work, bridging the gap between the show’s long-standing legacy and the future of the field.
