Christy Carlson Romano Reveals Failed Real Housewives of Austin Casting

Christy Carlson Romano nearly transitioned from Disney Channel stardom to reality television fame. During a recent promotional tour for her memoir, the actress revealed she was part of an early cast iteration for a proposed Real Housewives of Austin series before Bravo ultimately shelved the project in favor of other programming.

Appearing on Page Six Radio, Romano described the potential cast as a collection of compelling figures, including University of Texas at Austin coach’s wife Loreal Sarkisian, Poppi founder Allison Ellsworth, and Glee alumna Becca Tobin. According to Romano, the group’s dynamic was already taking shape—notably anticipating friction between herself and Tobin—before the network pivoted.

Bravo eventually moved forward with a different Texas-based production, Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives. The network has positioned this upcoming series around a tight-knit circle in Texas Hill Country, focusing on family life, ranch management, and the complexities hidden behind a traditional facade. While the show was initially set for a 2027 premiere, industry speculation suggests it could eventually migrate to Peacock under a rebranded Real Housewives title.

Romano, who recently released her memoir, Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Fall and Rise of a Child Star, admitted she remains open to joining the Bravo universe should the network revive the Austin concept. For now, the actress is pivoting back to scripted roles, with a featured part in the upcoming Hallmark film Holiday Ever After: A Disney World Wish Come True, scheduled for a November 28 release.
