The FishEye Collaborative presented these recordings during the Voices of the Ocean event on October 6, 2026, held at the Library’s Coolidge Auditorium. This archive stands as the largest publicly accessible collection of natural fish sounds from the United States and the broader Pacific region. The event, hosted by Wave and Conservation Nation, gathered over 300 ocean experts to discuss marine innovation, ranging from coral restoration techniques by Coral Vita to oyster reef development by GRoW Reefs.
Speakers including Dr. Sylvia A. Earle and Professor Carlos Duarte emphasized the necessity of shifting toward ocean regeneration by 2050. By integrating these underwater soundscapes into the national archive, the project seeks to elevate the status of marine acoustics. Organizers hope that providing open access to these recordings will foster deeper collaboration between marine biology and technology, ensuring that the diverse voices of the ocean are not only heard but actively protected.
