Inside the Dosing Room: New Documentary Captures Psychedelic Healing

In the Village East by Anjelika Theater, the new documentary PEAKING: PSYCHEDELICS AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS moves beyond academic debate by placing cameras directly into the dosing room. The film tracks a diverse range of subjects, from combat veterans to professional athletes, seeking relief through controversial medicinal substances.

Ten-time Emmy winner Jordan Kronick directs this exploration into the resurgence of psychedelics. Rather than relying solely on interviews, the production documents the visceral reality of these treatments. Viewers see two-time Stanley Cup champion Daniel Carcillo and former NHL player Stephen Johns utilize psilocybin in Oregon, while others undergo ayahuasca rituals in the Amazon or ibogaine therapy in Mexico to combat opioid addiction. The film also features Nova Music Festival survivors who credit MDMA and LSD for shielding them from post-traumatic stress.

Beyond the clinical experience, the narrative maps the transition of these substances from 1960s criminalization to their current status at the edge of mainstream legalization. Experts such as Rick Doblin, a key figure in the legalization movement, and scientist Robin Carhart-Harris provide the structural context for this cultural shift. Following a premiere at the Chinese Theatres in Los Angeles, the film begins its New York theatrical run on October 8, 2026, aiming to demystify the rapid, often intense, process of psychedelic recovery.
