Jesse McCartney Navigates Anxiety Ahead of Second Child’s Birth

The trauma of a premature birth still echoes for Jesse McCartney as he and wife Katie Peterson prepare to welcome a daughter. After their son Archer spent 70 days in the NICU, the singer admits he is feeling "cautiously optimistic" and grappling with the lasting emotional toll of that experience.

McCartney and Peterson, who married in 2021, are anticipating their second child following the arrival of their son, Archer, in May 2025. The birth of their first child was marked by significant medical complications, as Peterson experienced preterm labor contractions two weeks before delivery. Archer arrived three months early, necessitating a lengthy stay in the neonatal intensive care unit. Reflecting on that period, the couple described the ordeal as a test that ultimately deepened their bond, with McCartney noting his admiration for his wife’s resilience during the crisis.

Speaking to TMZ outside LAX on October 8, McCartney acknowledged that the shadow of their past experience remains. While he confirmed that the current pregnancy is progressing well, he admitted that being a NICU parent creates a lingering sense of anxiety. The couple, who first met at a bar in 2012, are looking forward to the arrival of their daughter, which Peterson says will bring a new balance to their family.
