Target enrichment remains a significant bottleneck in next-generation sequencing due to the precise temperature control and magnetic bead manipulation required. Manual execution often introduces variability between operators, impacting data quality. By automating the Fast Hyb protocol on the Callisto platform, Volta Labs aims to eliminate these manual inconsistencies, allowing for walk-away processing that matches the performance of traditional methods.

Testing indicates that the automated process achieves sequencing results comparable to manual preparation across key metrics, including coverage uniformity and AT/GC dropout. Udayan Umapathi, CEO of Volta Labs, noted that this addition allows facilities to handle their complete range of Twist hybrid capture applications on a single system. For labs focused on comprehensive cancer profiling and whole exome sequencing, the update provides a path to increase throughput without increasing staff burden. Emily M. Leproust, CEO of Twist Bioscience, emphasized that such automation is essential for reducing the complexity typically associated with high-performance genomic workflows.
