Aker BP Expands Computer Vision Rollout on Norwegian Rigs

The latest installation on Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Nordkapp represents a strategic push to integrate computer vision into daily operations on the Norwegian continental shelf. By monitoring shale shakers, the CleanSight system identifies cavings and hole cleaning inefficiencies, allowing crews to intervene before minor wellbore instability escalates into critical stuck pipe events. This expansion is governed by a broader framework agreement between the two companies intended to foster further technical collaboration.

Calvin Holt, CEO of DrillDocs, noted that the technology bridges the gap between physical camera sensors and data science to provide actionable insights into drilling conditions. For Aker BP, the project aligns with its goal of digitizing field operations to improve safety and efficiency. Tommy Sigmundstad, Senior Vice President of Drilling & Wells, stated that the partnership serves as a key pillar in the company’s efforts to modernize its exploration and production workflows through artificial intelligence.
