Echolands Winery Secures Second Consecutive Platinum Decanter Award

For the second year running, Walla Walla's Echolands Winery has claimed a Platinum Award at the Decanter World Wine Awards. Out of 17,000 global entries, the 2023 Cabernet Franc from Blue Mountain Vineyard stood as the only wine from Washington state to earn the distinction, marking a 97-point repeat performance.

The accolade recognizes winemaker Brian Rudin’s first full vintage at the helm, where he guided the fruit from the vine to the bottle. Judges praised the Cabernet Franc for its tender palate, highlighting a profile defined by pencil-shaving tannins and balanced herbaceous acidity. Rudin describes the winemaking process as a delicate exercise in timing, noting that he aimed to coax additional structure from the vineyard's naturally lithe frame without sacrificing its signature elegance.

Beyond the Cabernet Franc, the winery’s 2024 Riesling Block 01 from the Frenchman Hills Vineyard also secured a 96-point score. This achievement distinguishes it as the only white wine from Washington and one of just two Rieslings in the United States to reach that tier of recognition. Founded in 2018 by Master of Wine and Master Sommelier Doug Frost alongside conservationist Brad Bergman, Echolands manages estates across both the Washington and Oregon sides of the Walla Walla Valley.
