Ice Cube and Nia Long to Revive Are We There Yet? Franchise

Two decades after their last onscreen outing, Ice Cube and Nia Long are returning for a third installment in the Are We There Yet? series. Titled Are They Gone Yet?, the project sees the duo partnering with Skydance Sports to navigate the comedic challenges of their characters becoming grandparents.

The original 2005 film proved a commercial powerhouse, grossing nearly $100 million, while its 2007 sequel, Are We Done Yet?, pulled in roughly $60 million. The franchise also inspired a 100-episode TBS sitcom that ran from 2010 to 2013, solidifying the characters' place in pop culture. Ice Cube, who produces through his CubeVision banner, expressed enthusiasm about introducing Nick Persons to a new generation.

Despite the brand's history, the announcement has triggered a wave of skepticism among fans. Critics on Reddit have questioned the necessity of the project, with some suggesting the rapper is leaning too heavily on past successes rather than developing new material. This pushback is compounded by news of his ongoing work on sequels for Ride Along, Friday, and 22 Jump Street. While Nia Long previously praised Ice Cube’s evolution into an entrepreneur, the audience reception highlights a growing fatigue toward the industry's current trend of reviving early 2000s intellectual property.
