Appearing on The Joe Vulpis Podcast in June, Musso confirmed he received an invitation but declined because the project was not presented in a way that resonated with him. Rather than a reunion special, the 34-year-old actor had hoped for a narrative return to the world of the show. He argued that the production should have filmed a new episode or a movie, allowing the cast to step back into their original roles.
“The kid in me was banking on it,” Musso said, expressing a desire to inhabit his character, Oliver Oken, once more. He noted that had Disney opted to produce a script rather than a talk-show style special, he would have cleared his entire schedule to participate. Musso admitted he felt the wait for a reunion was too long to settle for anything less than a genuine return to the character’s classic aesthetic, including the signature polo shirts and plaid shorts.
While some social media users criticized his absence, suggesting he should have participated regardless of the format, many fans supported his stance. Online discourse reflected a divided audience: some felt he deprived fans of a full experience, while others agreed that the special was underwhelming compared to a scripted revival. Despite his absence from the screen, Musso remains active in the industry and is currently slated to appear in the upcoming comedy Mister Fun.
