Gage, known for his roles in The White Lotus and Overcompensating, describes his previous habit of hiding his sexuality as a burden that eventually became unsustainable. While he initially viewed the secrecy as a form of mystery, he eventually realized it was eroding his well-being. The shift came with maturity and the realization that professional alignment is more valuable than broad appeal. If potential collaborators take issue with his identity, he now considers them the wrong people to work with in the first place.
This newfound openness extends to his recently published memoir, I Wrote This For Attention. Within its 320 pages, Gage tackles complex themes including his experiences with family trauma, addiction, and borderline personality disorder. He frames the book as an exploration of the human need for validation, aiming to reclaim the desire for attention as a constructive force. Beyond his writing, Gage is also using his platform to advocate for sexual health, specifically the use of PrEP. He emphasizes that removing the stigma surrounding such topics is essential, noting that prioritizing safety is as fundamental to his daily self-care as nutrition or exercise.
