Sweetin shared the behind-the-scenes history on the Taboo’s Comics & Kicks podcast, noting that while Posey was a wonderful presence on set, Saget had been the production’s first choice from the start. Saget was initially unavailable due to other professional commitments, leading the network to move forward with Posey. Once the show was greenlit, however, Franklin insisted on a reshoot, convinced that Saget was the only actor capable of anchoring the series.
For his part, Posey has previously spoken about the experience, admitting he was largely navigating the complexities of sitcom production for the first time. He recalled learning he had been replaced roughly a month after the pilot was completed. While the show ultimately became a defining success for Saget, the transition remains a notable footnote in the history of the 1987 sitcom, which ran for eight seasons.
