NYU Langone Recruits Trio of Specialists to Lead Orthopedic Centers

Sabrina M. Strickland, MD, will serve as the inaugural director of the Center for Patellofemoral Disorders, bringing two decades of experience from the Hospital for Special Surgery. Her research into 3D-printed joint models marks a shift toward personalized surgical techniques that account for natural anatomical variation. Joining her are Andreas H. Gomoll, MD, who will co-direct the Knee Preservation Center, and F. Winston Gwathmey, MD, tapped to lead the Hip Preservation and Hip Arthroscopy Center.

Dr. Gomoll arrives from the Hospital for Special Surgery with an extensive background in cartilage repair and innovative implants, while Dr. Gwathmey transitions from the University of Virginia Health System, where he established a high-volume hip preservation program. Joseph D. Zuckerman, chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, noted that these appointments reflect the institution’s broader goal of maintaining its top-tier status in orthopedic care. Currently ranked No. 2 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, NYU Langone continues to prioritize its large-scale residency programs and clinical research initiatives as it integrates these specialists into its sports medicine division.
