Lincolnshire Co-op accelerates self-checkout expansion

The project represents the first UK retail implementation stemming from the partnership between The Barcode Warehouse and hardware provider CCL. By installing the 21.5-inch CCL Z2 Windows units, the retailer intends to shift store operations toward a more flexible model. Andy Warman, Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer at Lincolnshire Co-op, stated that the initiative is designed to provide customers with greater convenience while allowing staff to focus on higher-value service tasks on the shop floor.

This deployment deepens a three-year relationship between the two companies, which already encompasses stock management, pricing updates, and point-of-sale support. According to Jason Datt, Head of Retail at The Barcode Warehouse, the transition reflects a broader industry trend where retailers utilize technology to remove friction from the shopping journey. Following the initial phase covering 74 locations, the project is set to expand to an additional 21 stores by the end of 2026.
