The survey, conducted in June 2026, compared the performance of 204 managers supervising University of Phoenix graduates against an equal number of managers overseeing alumni from other colleges. Beyond general readiness, the findings highlight specific competencies: 96% of managers noted strong problem-solving abilities, while 85% confirmed that graduates were job-ready from their first day.
These results arrive as employers increasingly prioritize soft skills—such as communication, critical thinking, and reliability—alongside technical training. John Woods, provost and chief academic officer at the University of Phoenix, attributes this performance to the institution's student demographic. Because 75% of their students are already employed while pursuing their degrees, the curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application. This environment, Woods argues, fosters self-discipline and organizational skills that are immediately transferable to professional roles.
When measured against benchmark peers, the university’s graduates consistently scored higher across key metrics. For instance, 62% of managers reported that University of Phoenix graduates exceeded or far exceeded expectations regarding job-specific knowledge, compared to 48% for the benchmark group. Furthermore, 97% of the managers surveyed expressed a willingness to hire additional graduates from the university in the future, signaling strong employer confidence in the institution’s current academic model.
