September Retail Tech: Boots Joins TikTok and Kingfisher Bets on AI

From Boots launching its debut on TikTok Shop to Kingfisher raising its profit outlook through AI-driven content and personalization, September marked a period of aggressive digital acceleration across the retail sector. Major players are increasingly prioritizing intent-based search, automated warehouse logistics, and data-backed loyalty programs to secure a competitive edge.

The drive for operational efficiency has moved beyond simple digitization into complex AI integration. Kingfisher Group, owner of B&Q and Screwfix, reported that AI-driven personalization alone generated roughly £100 million in sales, prompting the retailer to raise its pre-tax profit guidance to £635 million. Similarly, H&M overhauled its search functionality, moving away from keyword matching to an intent-driven model that reduced customer search exits by 30%.

Automation remains a critical pillar for large-scale operations. Skechers has initiated one of Europe’s largest footwear logistics projects in Liège, Belgium, aiming for a capacity of 3.3 million storage locations by 2030. Meanwhile, Primark is finally embracing home delivery, supported by a new automated fulfilment facility in Sheffield. These shifts reflect a broader industry push toward omnichannel consistency, with Asda installing 700 InPost lockers and The Range deploying VoCoVo headsets across 283 stores to streamline internal communication and reduce labor friction.
