Morrisons tests automated Click & Collect lockers in Skipton

Morrisons has launched a pilot program at its Skipton store in North Yorkshire, utilizing temperature-controlled lockers to streamline the customer collection process. By integrating technology from StrongPoint ALS and VoCoVo, the retailer aims to offer flexible, round-the-clock access to ambient, chilled, and frozen grocery orders.

The new system allows customers to retrieve pre-packed orders by entering a unique six-digit code upon arrival. According to Christopher Evison, Senior Productivity Manager at Morrisons, the lockers effectively extend the store's collection window by two hours daily. The installation is designed to handle a variety of order sizes, ranging from small essential top-ups to full weekly shops, while ensuring consistent temperature maintenance for perishable items.

To bridge the gap between automated hardware and human support, the lockers feature integrated VoCoVo headsets. This setup provides customers with an immediate, two-way connection to store personnel, facilitating quick assistance or necessary ID verification. The pilot represents a broader effort by the retailer to enhance its online fulfillment capabilities while maintaining operational efficiency at the store level.
