Volta Labs has integrated the Twist Fast Hybridization Kit into its Callisto sample preparation system, enabling laboratories to automate complex target enrichment workflows. This development allows researchers to transition from traditional overnight protocols to same-day, walk-away sequencing preparation while maintaining consistent performance across multiple runs.
The new Fast Hyb App joins the existing Standard Hyb v2 App on the Callisto platform, marking a collaborative expansion between Volta Labs and Twist Bioscience. By leveraging Callisto’s digital fluidics technology, the system manages precise temperature control and magnetic bead manipulation—tasks that typically require intensive manual intervention and are prone to operator-induced variability.Internal testing confirms that the automated process achieves sequencing results comparable to manual preparation. Key quality control metrics, including coverage uniformity and AT/GC dropout, remain consistent with traditional methods. According to Udayan Umapathi, CEO of Volta Labs, the system removes the necessity for constant monitoring, allowing labs to process comprehensive cancer profiling and whole exome sequencing with greater efficiency.
Emily M. Leproust, CEO of Twist Bioscience, noted that the integration provides laboratories with the flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and performance demands. With both core hybrid capture workflows now automated on a single platform, the partnership aims to lower the technical barriers to high-performance target enrichment, reducing hands-on time by up to 80% for genomic facilities.
