The expansion targets Japan’s extensive cashless ecosystem, covering dining, shopping, and transportation sectors. By leveraging existing QR code payment rails, the move bridges the gap between digital assets and traditional fiat-based point-of-sale systems. Approximately 48 million eligible Binance Pay users across more than 100 countries will gain access to this network.
Thomas Gregory, VP of Payments & Fiat at Binance, noted that the integration reflects a broader strategy to harmonize global digital asset usage with established local payment networks. While Binance provides the user-facing interface, the HIVEX framework enables the technical handshake between international crypto wallets and the PayPay infrastructure, which remains one of the most ubiquitous payment services in the region.
