Lange recently told Rolling Stone that she feels like she is coming to an end, identifying her latest work in the film adaptation of Long Day’s Journey into Night as a potentially fitting final act. While she remains open to theater work, she noted that the scarcity of substantial roles for older actresses and the rising difficulty of getting high-quality projects off the ground have left her disillusioned. She emphasized that she has no interest in taking on roles that fail to ignite her creative passion, noting that committing to a long production without genuine excitement would be a mistake.
Her critique of the modern industry extends to its structural shifts, as she believes filmmaking has lost its soul since the creative heights of the 1970s and early 1980s. Despite a celebrated career that includes two Oscars, three Emmys, and a Tony, Lange remains realistic about the current landscape. She has previously pointed to a lack of gender equality and a shift toward corporate interests as major factors that have fundamentally altered the craft she once knew.
