Knox Jolie-Pitt Has Not Filed to Change His Name, Sources Say

Knox, 18, has not filed legal paperwork to change his surname, but he has used Jolie publicly, including on his high school diploma, according to reports. If he formally drops Pitt, he would be the fifth of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children to stop using their father’s surname.

Page Six cited a source who said Knox’s name change was likely, though no timeline had been set. “Knox hasn’t filed anything yet, but it’s only a matter of time before he drops Pitt from his last name,” the source said, describing the possibility as “heartbreaking for Brad.” The source added that there was no specific date for a change.

Knox’s sister Vivienne recently received a judge’s approval to change her legal name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. Shiloh began her name-change process on her 18th birthday in May 2024, and a judge approved it that August. Maddox is legally known as Maddox Chivan Jolie, and Zahara as Zahara Marley Jolie. Both had used Jolie publicly before their changes were approved.

Accounts of the family rift differ. A source close to Pitt accused Jolie of a “long-standing, intense, deliberate effort to alienate her children from their father,” according to Page Six. Another source said Jolie had participated in family therapy with Pitt and the children, and said the effects of Pitt’s actions had damaged the children’s trust. “It’s been very hard for the kids. No one knows, except them, how bad it has been,” the source said.

Pitt has previously spoken about a difficult period in his life in an interview with Esquire. Asked whether it was connected to his children, he replied: “Family stuff. We could leave it at that.”
